What is the Burn Rate & Runway Calculator?
This calculator shows how fast a business is spending cash and how long the money in the bank will last. Enter cash in bank, monthly revenue and monthly expenses to get net burn and the runway in months at the current pace.
How it works
Net burn equals monthly expenses minus monthly revenue. Runway in months equals cash in bank divided by net burn. If revenue covers expenses, net burn is zero or negative, and there is no runway limit because cash is not being used up.
How to use it
- Enter your current cash in bank.
- Enter average monthly revenue.
- Enter average monthly expenses.
- Read net burn, runway and the status line.
Burn Rate & Runway Calculator — FAQ
What is the difference between gross and net burn?
Gross burn is total monthly spending. Net burn is spending minus revenue, which is what actually drains the bank balance.
Is runway fixed?
No. It changes whenever revenue or expenses change, so recalculate monthly with fresh figures.
Which months should I average?
Use the last three to six months where possible, so one unusual month does not distort the figure.
