In short

What is the ROI Calculator?

The ROI calculator compares what you put in with what you got back. It gives the net gain, the return on investment as a percentage, and the annualised return, which spreads that growth evenly over the number of years so different periods can be compared.

How it works

Net gain equals the amount returned minus the amount invested. ROI per cent equals net gain divided by amount invested times 100. Annualised ROI equals the returned amount divided by the invested amount, raised to the power of one over the years, minus one, times 100.

How to use it

  1. Enter the amount invested.
  2. Enter the amount returned at the end.
  3. Enter how many years it took.
  4. Read net gain, ROI and annualised ROI.
Questions

ROI Calculator — FAQ

What is the difference between ROI and annualised ROI?

ROI is the total gain over the whole period. Annualised ROI is the equivalent steady yearly rate, which lets you compare projects of different length.

Does ROI include risk?

No. It only compares two amounts. A high ROI can still carry high risk, which this tool does not measure.

Can I use fractions of a year?

Yes. Type 1.5 for eighteen months, for example.
