What is the Ratio Calculator?

This ratio calculator reduces two numbers to their simplest ratio, such as 12 and 18 becoming 2 to 3. It also shows each number as a per cent of the total of the two. Decimals are supported up to six places. Use it for mixes, shares and comparisons.

How it works

Both numbers are scaled to whole numbers if they have decimals, then divided by their greatest common divisor to give the simplest ratio. Each share is the number divided by the sum of both and multiplied by 100. If both numbers are zero, no ratio is shown.

How to use it

  1. Enter the first number as A.
  2. Enter the second number as B.
  3. Read the simplified ratio.
  4. Check the per cent share of A and B.
Questions

Ratio Calculator — FAQ

How do I simplify a ratio by hand?

Find the largest number that divides both values exactly, then divide both by it. For 12 and 18 that number is 6, giving 2 to 3.

Can I use decimals?

Yes. The tool multiplies both numbers to remove decimals, simplifies them and shows the clean ratio.

What does the per cent share mean?

It shows how much of the combined total each number makes up. A ratio of 1 to 3 gives 25 per cent and 75 per cent.
