What is the Image Compressor?
The Image Compressor reduces the file size of a photo by re-saving it as a JPG at the quality you choose, and optionally shrinking very wide images. It runs entirely in your browser, so the picture is never uploaded. Use it before adding images to a website, email or WhatsApp catalogue.
How it works
The picture is drawn onto a canvas at its original size, or scaled down to your maximum width, and exported as a JPG at the chosen quality. Lower quality discards more fine detail, which is what makes the file smaller.
How to use it
- Choose an image from your device.
- Adjust the quality and maximum width until the size shown is small enough and the preview still looks good.
- Press Download to save the compressed copy.
Image Compressor — FAQ
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The compression happens inside your browser on your own device, and the file never leaves it.
What quality should I use?
Around 70 to 80 keeps most photos looking clean while cutting the size substantially. Check the preview and go lower only if it still looks acceptable.
Why did my PNG lose its transparent background?
This tool saves as JPG, which has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. Use the WebP converter if you need to keep transparency.
