What is the Work Experience Calculator?

This calculator measures work experience between a joining date and a leaving date, leaving the leaving date empty to use today. It reports years, months and days, the total months and the total days. An option counts the last day as well, which some employers do for relieving letters.

How it works

Whole months are counted from the joining date, using the last day of a shorter month when the joining day does not exist there. The days left over run from that last monthly anniversary to the end date. Total days are the exact calendar difference between the dates.

How to use it

  1. Enter the joining date.
  2. Enter the leaving date, or leave it empty to use today.
  3. Tick the box if the last day should be counted too.
  4. Read the experience in years, months and days.
Questions

Work Experience Calculator — FAQ

Should the last working day be counted?

Practice differs between employers. Tick the inclusive option if yours counts both the first and last day, and leave it off otherwise.

How does it handle a joining date like the 31st?

When a month has no 31st, the monthly anniversary falls on its last day, so 31 January plus one month is the end of February.

Can I add several jobs together?

Calculate each job separately and add the totals. Overlapping jobs should not be counted twice.
