What is the Productivity Calculator?

This calculator measures productivity as output against time and people. Enter the units produced or tasks completed, the hours each person worked and the number of people. It shows output per hour, output per person and output per person-hour, so teams of different sizes can be compared fairly.

How it works

Output per hour is units divided by the hours worked. Output per person is units divided by the number of people. Total person-hours are hours per person times people, and output per person-hour is units divided by that figure. Any division by zero is shown as zero.

How to use it

  1. Enter the units produced or tasks done in the period.
  2. Enter the hours worked by each person.
  3. Enter the number of people.
  4. Read output per hour, per person and per person-hour.
Questions

Productivity Calculator — FAQ

What counts as a unit of output?

Any countable result, such as pieces made, tickets closed, invoices processed or pages written. Use the same unit when comparing periods.

Why is output per person-hour useful?

It adjusts for both team size and time, so a team of three over 40 hours can be compared with a team of five over 30.

Does higher productivity always mean better work?

Not necessarily. Quality, rework and effort matter too, so read the figure alongside quality measures.
