Differences

In short

What is the Text Diff Checker?

The text diff checker compares an original text with a changed version line by line and marks added lines with a plus, removed lines with a minus and unchanged lines with spaces. It also counts the changes. It is useful for reviewing edits to documents, config files and code snippets.

How to use it

  1. Paste the original text in the first box.
  2. Paste the changed text in the second box.
  3. Tick ignore whitespace if indentation differences do not matter.
  4. Read the plus and minus lines.
Questions

Text Diff Checker — FAQ

How does the comparison work?

It finds the longest run of lines the two texts share, then marks everything else as removed from the original or added in the changed version.

Does it compare words within a line?

No. The comparison is by whole lines, so a one-word edit shows as one line removed and one added.

Is there a size limit?

Each text may have up to 2,000 lines so the page stays responsive. For larger files use a desktop diff tool.
