Average Calculator
Paste a list of numbers to get the count, sum, mean, median, smallest and largest value.
What is the Average Calculator?
This average calculator reads a list of numbers separated by commas, spaces or new lines. It returns the count, the sum, the mean (the usual average), the median, and the smallest and largest values. Anything in the list that is not a number is ignored and reported.
How it works
The mean is the sum of all numbers divided by how many there are. The median is the middle number once the list is sorted, or the average of the two middle numbers when the count is even. The smallest and largest are the lowest and highest values.
How to use it
- Paste or type your numbers in the box.
- Separate them with commas, spaces or new lines.
- Read the count, sum and mean.
- Check the median, smallest and largest values.
Average Calculator — FAQ
What is the difference between mean and median?
The mean adds everything and divides by the count. The median is the middle value, so it is less affected by one very large or small number.
Can I paste numbers from a spreadsheet?
Yes. A column copied from a spreadsheet arrives on separate lines, which the tool reads correctly.
What happens to words or symbols in my list?
They are skipped and listed as ignored, so you can spot typing mistakes.
