In short

What is the Electricity Cost Calculator?

This calculator estimates the electricity an appliance uses and what it costs to run. Enter its power in watts, the hours used each day, the number of days and your rate per unit from your bill. It shows the units in kilowatt-hours, the total cost and the cost per day.

How it works

Units in kilowatt-hours are watts multiplied by hours per day and by days, divided by 1,000. The cost is the units multiplied by your rate per unit. The cost per day is the daily units multiplied by the rate. The rate is whatever you type in.

How to use it

  1. Enter the appliance power in watts, as printed on its label.
  2. Enter the hours it runs each day.
  3. Enter the number of days.
  4. Enter your rate per unit from your bill and read the cost.

Check your electricity bill or your supplier. Rates differ by state, slab and connection type, so this tool asks you to type yours.

Why might my actual bill be higher?
