What is the Invoice Number Generator?
The Invoice Number Generator creates a numbered sequence for invoices from a prefix, an optional financial year such as 2026-27, a starting number, how many you need and how many digits to pad to. It returns one number per line, such as INV/2026-27/0001. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
How to use it
- Enter the prefix and the financial year, or leave the year blank.
- Set the starting number, how many numbers you need and the padding digits.
- Choose the separator between the parts.
- Copy the list or download it as a text file.

How many numbers can I generate at once?
Up to 200 in one go. Increase the starting number to carry on from where the last batch ended.
Why pad with zeros?
Padding keeps numbers the same length, so 0001 sorts before 0010 in a list or spreadsheet.
Do invoice numbers have to follow a format?
Rules on invoice numbering exist, such as numbers being unique within a financial year. Check the current rules or ask your accountant.
